Building Finacial Funds for Emerging NYC Designers

NYCEDC is launching the NYC Fashion Production Fund that will offer needed capital to designers manufacturing their own clothing lines, and is currently seeking a financial institution to operate the fund.
Specifically, the NYC Fashion Production Fund will provide loans for the production of goods by emerging fashion designers who need to fulfill a purchase order from a retailer but can’t obtain conventional financing. The fund will only be available to New York City-based fashion designers and will require the designers to use local New York City factories to make their products. The total fund size is anticipated to be $5 million, seeded with $1 million from NYCEDC and the remaining $4 million to be identified by the selected operator.NYCEDC President Seth Pinsky said:
“Access to capital is often one of the biggest hurdles to the success of startup companies both in New York City and across the country. Through the NYC Fashion Production Fund we are seeking to help lower this significant barrier, thereby furthering the chances that the City’s emerging fashion designers will successfully launch new product lines and develop the major fashion labels of tomorrow.”

Vera Wang | Fall Bridal 2012

Vera Wang’s stunning and sought after wedding gowns took a turn towards the dark side last season. V’s “witchcraft” inspired bridal collection uses a abundance of carefully organized tulle in black and creamy nudes. Always accentuating the waist, we see lots of the strapless corset styled bodice followed by long layered fabrics in mermaid and ballroom cut skirts. Click on the title link above to view the entire collection or the link below for a backstage video and synopsis of the show. Her Spring 2013 Bridal Show will take place on April 15th.

Givenchy Haute Couture | Spring/Summer 2012

Collection by Ricardo Tisci for Paris Fashion Week

We reminisce with a stunning “making of” video for the SS 2012 Givenchy collection. Crocodile leather was dissected, bleached and resewn individually scale by scale. Spikes, and studs applied with spectacular craftsmanship. Remarkable detailed beading and embroidery, elegant and exotic jewelry.  A familiar 1920’s silhouette styled collection with an urban, edgy and tribal approach. Applause for the chunky brass zippers on those delicate chiffon dresses. We hail to higher court.

“Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations”

When “Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations” opened to the public at the Costume Institute today, the first thing museum-goers saw was a short video, masterfully brought to life by Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin, of the real-life Miuccia Prada having an intense dialogue across a long table with Elsa Schiaparelli, portrayed by the actress Judy Davis. Here is a short preview of the video, which was shot in Milan with the assistance of the Costume Institute curators Harold Koda and Andrew Bolton, courtesy of Vogue.com. Click on the links below for more on the exhibition, photos from the May 7th opening gala and much more.

Swamp Sweats

It might not be jacket weather down in Miami but here at BTM we like to keep a good over coat in mind all year long. This time of year that steady 89℉ fever stays faithful through the night accompanied by sagging humidity. There’s nothing like effortlessly pulling off the perfect leather jacket at a crowded corner bar without breaking a sweat. Paired with some studded cut-offs, sheer stockings, oversized graphic t-shirts or lace tops it’s possible. We’ve posted some of our favorites (colorful to classic) from the collection at TOPSHOP (with modestly priced alternatives) and hope you take a look. Now sweat on…

Chanel | Rogue Allure

Another short video by Solve Sundsbo for the new Chanel Rogue Allure shades entitled “I Love Chanel”. It was dedicated to Erwin Blumenfeld the late German/American fashion photographer. He is mostly recognized for having taken more covers for Vogue than any other photographer in the history of its publication. Flashes of the perfect female face ratio explore that elegant sex appeal Blumenfeld was renowned for capturing so well. Bold berry lips, classic cat eyes, long dark lashes and a crimson red polish to die for. Music by Goldfrapp. For more on Chanel’s makeup confidential or to purchase from the new Rogue Allure collection visit the link below.
